THE SOLUTION TO AFRICA'S FALLEN ECONOMY Part 2

Invest In Fish Farming Business And Make More Money

One of the most popular Agribusiness in Africa is fish farming. People no longer depend on getting Fish locally in rivers and ponds through trial and error. Today, the modern farm practice has made it possible to grow fishes in the farm and control the input.
According to an Aqua entrepreneur, fishery products is by far the most popular animal products in the market, Constituting more than 60% of meat produce in the African market. He explained that fish is one of the highest sources of protein, it is a low fat high quality protein that is filled with Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins such as D and B2 (riboflavin), adding that it is also very rich in calcium and phosphorus and is eaequal a great source of minerals such as iron, zinc, iodine, magnesium and potassium.

INTERESTING FACT

With proper planning and good management, $3000 investment in fish farming could easily result to $4000 of pure profit within six months. Due to the cost of production, fish produced from the farm is priced higher than those caught from the rivers and ponds by fishermen. Therefore, if there is good quantity of fisherman's fish in the market, you may find it difficult to sell as people would prefer the cheap ones.

Types of Fish You can Consider When Starting Out a Fish Business

CATFISH

Catfish is not the most popular fish in Africa, this fish specie is by far the most cultivated in the continent. One good thing about catfish is that, it is one of the easiest fish specie to cultivate.

TILAPIA

MACKEREL (Titus)
Mackerel is by far the most popular fish in the African market but so sad it is not farmed. All mackerel fish are wild caught but some farmers in Africa are considering the possibility of creating artificial salty water that will be similar to sea water where mackerel can only survive.

HOW TO BEGIN AN AQUACULTURE BUSINESS

  • You need to engage the service of a pond construction engineer or you can go to another fish farm to get the specification and construction requirements. The plumbing work must be properly done to ensure proper drainage.
  • Dig a borehole - adequate water supply is the life blood of fish farm and lack of it may result to disaster because water needs to be changed on regular interval. Borehole and river water are the most suitable while rain water and tap water from chemically treated source is not recommended for fish cultivation.
  • Install overhead tank - this is the water reservoir from which water is supplied to your ponds.
  • Get juvenile fish - get your juvenile from another farm that specializes in supplying it and make sure you are getting it from a healthy farm.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
You need to get attached to another fish farm for proper apprenticeship. For you to properly learn this trade, you need at least two months training on this. It's not the kind of training you get from one day seminars.

  1. Africa is a continent of rich Marine deposit, we can make a good fortune by getting the fishes from the wild and raising them up, improving their reproduction and selling them out to make gains.
